Some fashion designers are exploding right now… and the ones who aren't are all making the same mistake.

I was recently in California with a few days free before an event… so I used the time to talk to some fashion founders. And I noticed something quite consistent.

They were all incredibly talented designers with some early success behind them… but their visibility was stuck at the same level. Not enough to be profitable, and they didn't know how to reach the right people, who would genuinely appreciate their craftsmanship and pay what their work was worth, without comparing their prices to Zara or H&M.

They wanted more of the right people to see their collections. But the actions that would actually create that visibility kept getting pushed into the 'I'll do it later' category.

There's always something more immediate… production,  admin,  finances.  running the studio, life. So the work that actually changes how a brand is seen keeps getting pushed to tomorrow… next week… after this deadline… after production… once the collection is ready.

What most designers don't realise is that visibility doesn't come from working harder on your collections, or posting more on Instagram...  and it doesn't build automatically in the background.

It comes from structured launches, where the brand is intentionally positioned in front of the right people.

And if that isn't happening consistently, you can stay very busy… very creative… very active… and still not be seen at the level where pricing, demand, and serious buyer interest starts to shift.

To become visible to the right buyers, press, influencers, and the people who can genuinely open doors,  it's never just about talent or hard work. It can't be treated as something optional, something you'll get around to one day. It has to be built into how your brand operates day to day, consistently.

So ask yourself honestly… are you investing in the things that create visibility at a higher level? … showcase launches, presentations or strategic campaigns where your work is positioned in front of the right people.

Or are you focused on creating more pieces, refining your collections, posting content… and waiting for the right audience to find you?

That feels like progress, like you're building the brand…  but the brands that actually make it aren't just making great collections, and they're definitely not relying on an Instagram algorithm or a Facebook ad.

They're deliberately creating situations where their work is seen in the right context, by the right people, at the right moment.

That's what a showcase launch really is, and without it, you stay busy… But you're not positioning your brand in a way that can shift how your brand is perceived.
