In this video you are going to learn how to attract massive attention to your fashion brand so you can sell more designs. Many fashion designers are always telling me they can’t sell enough of their designs and don’t know how to attract attention to their brand…. But don’t worry I'm about to show you how to fix this!
Step 1 Defining The Vibe Of Your Brand.
In this step you will learn how to clearly define the vibe or mood of your brand so that you can attract more of the right customers! Most designers either don’t understand or skip this step and some just choose brand colours or logos without realising there is so much more to it!
So here’s what you need to do. Start by defining six words that describe the vibe, mood or overall story of your brand. This will be used to inform your designs, photography, videography, merchandising, packaging and communication. For example words that describe Gucci’s vibe would be: nostalgic; nerdy; adolescent; 60’s & 70’s; dressing-up box; attic treasures or child-like fantasy. (This will possibly change because Alessandro Michele is leaving the brand).
Do you see how much deeper you can go than just colours & logos and how those words conjure up so much more in your imagination!!
Step 2 Choosing Colours & Textures.
In this step you will learn how colour and texture can be used to attract customers to your brand. Most designers don’t know how to do this effectively and think it’s just about creating a pretty instagram feed but that’s never going to work and here is what you need to do:
Choose the specific colours, textures, materials and silhouettes that represent your brand’s vibe and add these to a mood board. You can then use these sprinkled throughout your collections consistently and subtly so that you become recognised for your particular signature style and start attracting more customers.
If you look at Miu Mui you’ll see how a colour and texture helps create a really memorable brand. All their retail interiors, packaging some accessories and clothing retain the same blush tone and quilted textures.
Step 3 Develop A Distinctive Feature So That Customers Remember & Recognise Your Brand.
Most designers just sew a logo inside their products. They don’t even consider anything else so their products just blend in with a sea of other designers…. So if you get this right it will give you an edge over your competitors.
Here all you have to do is develop a distinctive detail, print or pattern that can be consistently added to all your garments or products. For example Thom Browne sews a red, white and blue grosgrain ribbon onto the underside of button stands. Martin Margiela hand sew garment labels with four large visible white stitches showing through to the right side. Christian Louboutin painted the soles of all his shoes red. Burberry ’s check pattern helped them become one of the most recognised brands and Missoni always use colourful stripes. So, can you see how subtle this can be yet it creates a memorable visual for your customers.
Step 4 Designing A Statement Piece That Has The WOW Factor
The mistake many designers make here is either ONLY creating wow factor pieces with nothing to actually sell. …. or they only have sellable pieces and nothing at all that is attention grabbing!
You really only need to design one or two STATEMENT PIECES in every collection that have the WOW factor and really embody the vibe of your brand. The main function of these pieces is to get press and draw attention to your brand, therefore they don’t necessarily need to sell.
It can be as simple as just adding a few exaggerated versions of the sellable designs and will usually come from your initial design concept.
