CEO Fashion Designers Create A Paradigm Shift In The Fashion Industry

 

If all independent Fashion Designers get behind a new concept we could create a paradigm shift in the fashion industry, making it much easier for small creative fashion designers to thrive alongside the big brands.

 

I call this concept LUXIE.    Luxie is a hybrid concept where big LUXURY brands collaborate with small INDIE designers.

 

When I started my business in the 90’s consumers wanted big brand labels so it was a struggle and that’s why I want to make it easier for independent designers to thrive in a much more even playing field without the struggles we experienced.

 

For the first time in at least 40 years more consumers now actually do want to buy from small independents and at long last realise that it is cool to buy more authentic, unique products produced in small quantities and to have a real connection with the designer.

 

I think the large luxury brands could risk becoming dinosaurs if they don’t adapt and the most obvious solution is for them to work with, sponsor or collaborate with small indie designers.   

 

Designer collaborations have been around since the 1930’s but recently there has been an overabundance of collaborations between luxury brands and celebrities, sports brands, artists, other luxury designers or even Barbie!!    Most recently We’ve seen Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama or  Balmain and Beyonce …And of course all the high street brands collaborating with young designers such as Zara and my CSM alumni Susan Fang…..

 

Everyone’s bored of collaborations….But what I am talking about here is to create new conceptual shopping experiences for the luxury brands and indie designers to sit side by side.,   Where the Loewe’s and Prada’s support cool, innovative designers in return for some street cred and perhaps a percentage of sales.

 

What about merging Luxury and Indie designers in a revitalised version of Hyper Hyper (If you haven’t heard of Hyper Hyper it was a really cool place to buy from young emerging designers in the 80’s)

 

Here in the UK we have lots of really beautiful iconic traditional shopping arcades that could be transformed into new “luxie” spaces.

 

Or the luxury brands could allocate a display space in their existing stores to promote and sell aligned indie brands.

 

There is so much potential for innovative designers to think outside the box and reach out to luxury designers and retail space landlords, or even ask local governments if they can help to make this shift a reality.     

 

It won’t happen overnight .  It will need lots of people to get behind it but there is so much potential to make this a reality.
