How to sell more of your fashion products to existing customers

Whether you’re a start-up or an established designer you probably all want more sales!.

Are you posting on social media twice a day, running out of content and still seeing no growth?  Perhaps you're just getting started on your fashion business adventure with no idea what the next best step should be.....Or perhaps the pandemic has slowed the growth of your business.

Everyone in business wants more sales and more profit…otherwise its just a hobby!...... And how much energy, time and money is it costing you to find new customers?

It’s so much easier to sell to existing customer than it is to bring on a new customer and the more offers you put in front of them the more sales you will get…….

"But I only have one product” you might be saying.   “No-one wants to buy more of my one product”…...

Can you add more products?… If you don’t want to add more products how can you sell more of the same thing to your customers?  How can you inspire them to buy more colours, fabrications, prints or sizes of the exact same item?  How can you make it exciting and irresistible to have more of the same thing?.….

Can you add large, medium, small, maxi, mini, midi versions of the same product, elongate a shirt to become a dress, shorten a dress to become a shirt, have small, medium and large versions of the same bag etc?.

Can you inspire your customers with styling advice, soul stirring photography and video in your social media posts and website.   Or, go traditional and send postcards or brochures.

Posting awesome photos and videos of yourself and other cool people or models layering multiples of your products can inspire customers to do the same and want to be part of your "layering" tribe.

For example:

If you’re a womens' separates designer you could use photographs and video to provide styling advise and show :

  • How stylish it is to layer your garments , ie a detachable collar, blouse, skirt,  jacket and bag create a particular really fantabulous look when worn all together.
  • That your T-shirt, blouse etc just HAS to have your huge frilly detachable collar!
  • An irresistible mood i.e. going to a picnic in floppy hat and dress in the prettiest summer ginghams & liberty florals, so they can't resist buying the whole outfit!
  • the advantages of having different lengths or adaptations for different occasions.
  • Why they need different fabrications of the same style for different climates.
  • How to colour co-ordinate, encouraging them to buy more colours.
  • How they can identify the best colour for their body shape or skin tone.
  • Different ways of styling short versions or long versions for different situations & events.

Or, If you are a bag designer educate your customer in the art of handbag layering.  Use photographs and video to show how cool, and exciting it is to:

  • Have one of your coin purses or glasses case matching or eclectically mis-matching your bag.
  • Wear several different sizes of the same bag all at once, encouraging them to buy all sizes.
  • Wear several of the same size bag at once.
  • Co-ordinate bag colours with their outfits encouraging them to buy more colours.

Start a movement and a style that involves layering your products and garments which your customers will want to get behind….Create your own IG hashtag and encourage your customers to use it sharing photos of themselves layering your product in different colours, scales, prints or fabrications.

Basically show your customers how cool layering is...... Here are some great layered looks to get you started:

  • @kajsaellen on her instagram feed layers ginghams, liberty florals, blouse, jacket and big frilly collars.
  • In the  80's Comme Des Garçons layered pastel organza blouses & skirts and Jean Paul Gaultier layered chinoiserie prints.
  • In 2018 Chanel introduced their layered bags and Dolce & Gabbana even had the men piling on the purses!

What strategy will you use to inspire more purchases from your existing customers?

Drop me a line....I'd love to hear from you.
